I do adore my historical romance books. Witty banter, heartbreaking conflict, steamy romance, and fabulous character dynamic. My historical romance picks involve independent heroines, swoon-worthy heroes, and an evolution of lust to love. I read both indie authors and popular mainstream authors.
A Lady’s Code of Misconduct by Meredith Durant
The next steamy historical romance in USA TODAY bestselling and RITA award-winning author Meredith Duran’s “wonderfully indulgent” (Publishers Weekly) Rules for the Reckless series.
A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL…
Trapped in the countryside, facing an unwanted marriage and the theft of her fortune, Jane Mason is done behaving nicely. To win her freedom, she’ll strike a deal with the most dangerous man she knows—a rising star in politics, whose dark good looks mask an even darker heart.
…NEVER GOES TO PLAN.
The bitter past has taught Crispin Burke to trust no one. He’ll gladly help a lovely young heiress, provided she pays a price. Yet when a single mistake shatters his life, it is Jane who holds the key to his salvation. And in a world that no longer makes sense, Crispin slowly realizes that she may be the only thing worth fighting for…
A few words of opinion…
A fabulous historical romance intertwining romance, lust, political intrigue, and a gorgeous dark gothic mystery worthy of H.G. Wells. In an attempt to retain her fortune from the grubby hands of her uncle’s family, Jane seizes an opportunity when a hated acquaintance of hers falls on his deathbed. Faking a marriage, she presents herself to Crispin’s family as his wife, and when he survives his attack, she’s stricken with panic. Fortunately for her, Crispin suffers from amnesia and believes himself to be her husband. In an addition to memory loss, Crispin seems to also have lost that cruel edge that made Jane hate him in the first place, and in her deception, she starts to learn the truth about her fake husband and finds herself falling in love. A past that Crispin doesn’t remember continues to haunt him as he wonders who tries to kill him, and he still can’t quite figure out why his wife seems to dislike him so much. If you’re looking for a creative spin on a regency romance, this book is for you! I look forward to reading more from this author!
Traitor in her Arms by Shana Galen
Two morally compromised souls wage a battle of wits—and seduction—against the backdrop of the French Revolution in this thrilling romance from bestselling author Shana Galen.
After her late husband leaves her in debt to some dangerous people, Lady Gabrielle McCullough is forced to become a thief. In the intervening years, her skills have not gone unnoticed. After being recruited by the Scarlet Pimpernel, the mysterious do-gooder spiriting aristocrats out of revolutionary France, Gabrielle crosses the Channel for the most daring mission of her life. Accompanying her is the Earl of Sedgwick, a thief in his own right and an enticingly masculine presence. The man is not to be trusted—nor is Gabrielle’s body when he’s near.
Ramsey Barnes would not say he is an honorable man. His whole life has been based on a lie; why change now? Although it pains him to deceive the tantalizing Gabrielle, he’s working toward an altogether different objective: unmasking the Scarlet Pimpernel. If Ramsey fails, his blackmailer will ruin him. But when Ramsey’s confronted with the carnage of the Reign of Terror, he seeks refuge in Gabrielle’s heated embrace. Now he faces a terrible choice: betray the woman who’s stolen his heart—or risk losing everything.
A few words of opinion…
Oh my, I just adored this book. I’m all in for a historical female heroine who has some…ahem…real street skills! Starts off heart-pounding and shows the sizzling relationship with Gabrielle and Ramsey right off the bat. Drops the reader into the bloody violence of France’s rebellion but Ramsay’s secret (and the romance) really kept me reading because I just had to know how it ended. Love scenes are page-melting and the journey to true-love is heartwarming. No slow moments. Character development is amazing. I just loved loved loved 🙂
The Most Dangerous Duke in London by Madeline Hunter
Three sinfully handsome dukes, three scores to settle, three hearts about to meet their matches. All in one thrilling new trilogy from New York Times bestselling author Madeline Hunter . . .
NOTORIOUS NOBLEMAN SEEKS REVENGE
Name and title: Adam Penrose, Duke of Stratton. Affiliation: London’s elite Society of Decadent Dukes. Family history: Scandalous. Personality traits: Dark and brooding, with a thirst for revenge. Ideal romantic partner: A woman of means, with beauty and brains, willing to live with reckless abandon. Desire: Clara Cheswick, gorgeous daughter of his family’s sworn enemy.
FAINT OF HEART NEED NOT APPLY
Clara may be the woman Adam wants, but there’s one problem: she’s far more interested in publishing her women’s journal than getting married—especially to a man said to be dead-set on vengeance. Though, with her nose for a story, Clara wonders if his desire for justice is sincere—along with his incredibly unnerving intention to be her husband. If her weak-kneed response to his kiss is any indication, falling for Adam clearly comes with a cost. But who knew courting danger could be such exhilarating fun?
A few words of opinion:
This is my first book by this author, and I just loved it!! An excellent mystery plot, well-researched setting, plenty of sexual tension (and emotional steamy scenes) plus an independent heroine! I love a good historical romance that still has a dreamy alpha hero but puts him against brain and beauty! The banter and wit are fabulous. Excellent read!
The Right Kind of Rogue by Valerie Bowman
Can two star-crossed lovers come together—until death do they part?
Viscount Hart Highgate has decided to put his rakish ways behind him and finally get married. He may adore a good brandy or a high-speed carriage race, but he takes his duties as heir to the earldom seriously. Now all he has to do is find the right kind of woman to be his bride—ideally, one who’s also well-connected and well-funded. . .
Meg Timmons has loved Hart, the brother of her best friend, ever since she was an awkward, blushing schoolgirl. If only she had a large dowry—or anything to her name at all. Instead, she’s from a family that’s been locked in a bitter feud with Hart’s for years. And now she’s approaching her third London season, Meg’s chances with him are slim to none. Unless a surprise encounter on a deep, dark night could be enough to spark a rebellious romance. . .for all time?
A few words of opinion:
As usual, Valerie Bowman does an excellent job at making me scream in frustration at my kindle. The chemistry between naive Meg and handsome rake Hart sizzles, but it’s the evolution from lust to love that makes this book (and all her books) so good. We’re not just talking about our hero’s inability to properly sort through his feelings but also Meg’s development from a doe-eyed crush to understanding what she’s worth. This heroine quickly realizes that there’s more to love than just getting a man’s attention, and even if it means heartbreak, she’s not going to put up with anything less than the love that she deserves. Plot is face-paced without a single dull moment. Characters are engaging and dynamic. A fabulous book about love, friendship, hardship, and independence. High recommend. Adore everything this author does!
